Re-Opening of the Goethe-Institut Irland at 37 Merrion Square
Celebratory Programme
After a major redevelopment and expansion, the Goethe-Institut Irland’s Georgian Headquarters at 37 Merrion Square in Dublin will open with a celebratory programme of cultural events from Thursday September 20 to Sunday September 23, 2018.
The centrepiece of this cultural programme is the premiere of a new dance work by Liz Roche Company, entited Näher… Closer, Nearer, Sooner, which has been commissioned by the Goethe-Institut for the occasion.

The celebratory programme also features the launch of a two-year co-operation between the Goethe-Institut Irland and NCAD: Common Denominator begins with the exhibition Denominator Platform by conceptual artist Liam Gillick in the institute's Return Gallery.

Martin Henchion of Henchion + Reuter Architects and his team will give two guided tours through the Georgian building and the new build at the rear which accommodates the Goethe-Institut's language department.

There will be a reading by German fantasy author, Michael Marrak, whose novella Journey to the Centre of Time was produced in the summer of 2018 as part of the preparations for the re-opening of the Goethe-Institut Irland.

Also at Culture Night there will be a concert by Cologne indie-pop band Locas in Love, short film programmes, a scavenger hunt, and a talk by Andrew Hughes about the history of 37 Merrion Square.

In addition to events at 37 Merrion Square, the Goethe-Institut is supporting the presentation of Peaches Christ Superstar at the Abbey Theatre as part of Dublin Fringe.
