Earth Speakr is a participatory work of art by Berlin-based Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson in the context of the German EU Council Presidency 2020. This interactive piece of art offers children and young people an opportunity to exchange ideas about the future of our planet and climate change. Since July 2020, kids from all over Europe have been creating Earth Speakr messages in their environment through the Earth Speakr app and interactive website, and such contributions have actively shaped the evolving work of art. In order for the message to reach more young people across Europe and bring them into direct-dialogue with political decision-makers, the German embassies in co-operation with the Goethe-Instituts in 24 EU states and the UK extend an invitation to younger generations to voice their thoughts and concerns.

The Goethe-Institut Irland and the German Embassy Dublin will hold a live virtual Earth Speakr event on 27 November 2020. This day is also known as “Buy Nothing Day” which is a countermovement against Black Friday that promotes green consumerism and an ecological economy. Earth Speakr bubbles from students attending Coláiste Íosagáin in Dublin will be shown with their corresponding statements, which will then lead into a discussion about their thoughts and hopes for the future. H.E. Deike Potzel, German Ambassador to Ireland, Ronan Palmer from E3G (Third Generation Environmentalism) and other guests will then be in discussion with the students. This intergenerational encounter aims to consider all opinions on the future of our planet.

Presented by the Goethe-Institut Irland in cooperation with the German Embassy Dublin.
