Weihnachtslieder: A Christmas Recital

The Goethe-Institut Irland is delighted to present, in partnership with the Irish National Opera’s ABL Aviation Opera Studio, an evening of festive music and cheer. This special Christmas Concert “Weihnachtslieder: A Christmas Recital” with Irish National Opera has been filmed in our beautiful auditorium and library in Merrion Square. The programme includes operatic Christmas favourites from composers such as Händel, Puccini and Humperdinck. The concert took place on Friday 11 December and is available to watch on Goethe-Institut Irland's YouTube Channel.

The Goethe-Institut Irland has been partnering with Irish National Opera since 2018. The combination of a rich operatic tradition and plentiful performance opportunities makes Germany an ideal destination for any young opera singer keen to cultivate their skill, therefore a competency in the German language is central to developing a successful career. We have collaborated on a wealth of activities in order to strengthen and build on the links established between Irish artists and the German operatic world. In the past two years, we have worked closely to facilitate the support of German language skills during rehearsals of larger-scale Irish National Opera German language performances and establish specialised German language classes for opera professionals. As well as assisting German language development, we have also supported the invitation of some key German artists and coaches to engage with the Irish National Opera Studio members and larger Irish audiences in addition to co-hosting several public concerts and events.
