DANCING AT DUSK - A MOMENT WITH PINA BAUSCH'S THE RITE OF SPRING
Director: Florian Heinzen-Ziob
40 minutes
Germany / Senegal / UK
2020

In Dancing at Dusk, Pina Bausch’s iconic choreography The Rite of Spring (1975) is danced in an extraordinary setting, on the beach in Toubab Dialaw, Senegal.
Filmed as the world descended into lockdown, it captures the last rehearsal of a specially assembled company of 38 dancers from 14 African countries, and documents a unique moment in their preparations for an international tour.
A rare opportunity to watch one of the world’s greatest dance works.

BACKGROUND
In spring 2020, Pina Bausch’s 1975 seminal work, The Rite of Spring, was due to tour the world. Performed by a specially assembled company of 38 dancers from 14 African countries, this international co-production between Pina Bausch Foundation (Germany), École des Sables (Senegal) and Sadler’s Wells (UK) should have opened in March 2020 in Dakar. However, just days before the premiere, performances were cancelled as governments around the world banned public gatherings and began shutting their borders due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Before disbanding and going into lockdown, the company seized the moment by performing  a last rehearsal on a beach near their base at École des Sables in  Senegal.  Filmmaker Florian Heinzen-Ziob and his crew were able to capture this  unique  moment  in a stunning film.

ENHANCE YOUR EXPERIENCE

SILVER VEILED

Concept/Direction/Dance: Ginevra Panzetti & Enrico Ticconi
20 minutes
Italy / Germany
2021

Silver Veiled is a new video work by up-and-coming artistic duo Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi, which has evolved from their research exploring the symbolic power of the flag and its choreographic purpose in the folk tradition of flag waving.

Created in dialogue with the architecture, the use of the flag is central to the structure of the work. A series of unveilings unfold, evoking the close and ancient brotherhood between two textile objects; flag and shroud. The drapes are presented in a silvery grey, cleaned of symbols and coats of arms until they expose their plastic, invented essence. A blank canvas without connotations where anything can emerge, begin or disappear.
