Mädchen in Uniform
Dir.: Leontine Sagan, 100 minutes, black and white, Germany 1931, in German with English subtitles

Germany in the early 1920s. Fourteen-year-old officer's daughter Manuela von Meinhardis is sent to a boarding school for girls in Potsdam after the death of her mother. The strict Prussian drill and the lack of any warmth and affection makes it difficult for the sensitive girl to assimilate. The only silver lining is the understanding teacher Fräulein von Bernburg, who is popular at the school. When Manuela falls in love with the young woman and openly expresses her affection after a theatre performance, she triggers a scandal that has bitter consequences.

Genderation
Dir.: Monika Treut, 88 minutes, colour, Germany 2021, in English

More than 20 years after her documentary "Gendernauts - A Journey Trough Shifting Identities (1999)", filmmaker Monika Treut returns in "Genderation" to the people she met in San Francisco as pioneers of non-binary gender identities.
Sandy Stone, Susan Stryker, Stafford and Max Wolf Valerio have matured into well-known personalities of the queer, intersex and trans scene two decades later and no longer live in the Californian city that was the centre of the movement back then. Now the 58- to 84-year-olds look back on activism and change and reflect on what has improved and where life still presents them with challenges.
