Monika, who is in her mid-forties, is firmly established in Frankfurt's art and culture scene as a curator. One evening, against the backdrop of a police raid near the train station, she meets Congolese businessman Joseph, who is in turn looking for investors for a diamond mine in the Congo, and an intense love affair develops between the two. The relationship is put to the test not only by the prejudices of those around them, but also by a slowly mounting distrust between the two. Increasingly, their lives reflect existing postcolonial conflicts, raising questions of whether an equal partnership is even possible.

Dir.: Dietrich Brüggemann, in colour, 119 min., Germany 2021

In 15 self-contained chapters, this romantic comedy-drama tells the story of actress Dina and her partner, Michael, a doctor. The relationship between the two, who are in their early 30s, appears to be intact until Michael begins to contemplate a separation - imagining that perhaps he would be happier in a different constellation. Over seven years, the film accompanies the couple, from raising their children to questioning their relationship, showing states of mind beyond the visible.
