European Book Club: Afonso Reis Cabral
From January to July 2022, this year’s season Young Voices of the European Book Club will be presented as a series of seven events.
The upcoming meeting will host Portuguese writer Afonso Reis Cabral, whose travel diary, Take me with You – Portugal’s National Road 2 on Foot, has recently been translated into English.
Rachel McNicholl will moderate this online discussion, promoted by the Embassy of Portugal in Dublin and the Portuguese cultural institute, Camões — Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, I.P., with the support of the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) in Ireland.
This event will take place on 12th May, at 6pm, via Zoom. All are most welcome, including book and travelling enthusiasts, and members of the Portuguese-speaking community.
About the Book
In the spring of 2019, Afonso Reis Cabral crossed Portugal from North to South, walking 738.5 km along the country’s longest road, and sharing the whole adventure on social media. This beautiful route covers breath-taking landscapes such as the vineyards of the Douro Valley; mainland Portugal’s highest mountain, Serra da Estrela; Alentejo’s plains and fields, extending as far as the eye can reach; until finally reaching Algarve and the sea. This travel diary was edited and published under the title Take me with you – Portugal’s National Road 2 on foot.About the author
