Hans-Peter notices very early on that he has a talent for making people laugh. When he is nine years old, his family moves from the more rural parts of Recklinghausen into the city. Parodying the passers-by he sees from his grandmother’s corner shop or the prominent faces he knows from television, Hans-Peter regularly entertains the whole family. When his mother Margret suddenly loses her sense of smell as well as taste and spirals into a depression, Hans-Peter takes it upon himself to cheer her up.

All About Me is based on the autobiography of German comedian Hape Kerkeling. The tragicomedy, which was directed by Caroline Link, is a touching portrait of one of Germany’s most popular entertainers and paints a nostalgic and honest picture of the Ruhr Valley at the beginning of the 1970s.

Since its premier in 2018, All About Me has been awarded numerous prizes, among them the bronze Lola at the German Film Award and the prize for Best Director at the Bavarian Film Prize.

Presented by Terenure Library Dublin and the Goethe-Institut Irland.
