The reserved 27-year-old Christian starts his trial period in a wholesale market. His colleague Bruno from the drinks department helps him get by as he deals with the monotonous workdays at the huge warehouse. Right away, Christian is drawn to Marion from confectionaries, and the coffee station becomes their regular meeting point. Soon the whole market knows that Christian has fallen in love. But Marion is married. After she suddenly takes sick leave and seemingly avoids Christian, he is in danger of falling back into old habits.

In the Aisles gives a melancholic insight into a simple work life in East Germany und draws an honest picture of the people who are often more than colleagues. The award-winning film is based on the short story of the same name by Clemens Meyer. At the German Film Prize, Franz Rogowksi (Christian) won Best Male Act while In the Ailes received the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at Berlin International Film Festival.
