Dir.: Sven O. Hill, in colour, 81 min., Germany 2019
German with English subtitles
Hamburg, late 80s: Rüdi spends his evenings with his rocker buddies at the pub and shows up hungover to work at the bank the next morning. When he discovers a security gap in the bank’s system that makes him a millionaire – through not entirely legal means – he can fulfil his biggest dreams and sets out for Australia.
Everything could be perfect, if only it weren’t for his girlfriend, who’s not at all willing to simply pack up their child and move to the other side of the world. Back to Rüdi’s boring everyday life in Germany then?
Apparently based on a true fraud story, which never made the rounds, Sven O. Hill stages an entertaining mix of pseudo-documentary, gangster comedy and low-budget animation, full of dry humour and Hamburg charm.
Presented by Terenure Library Dublin and the Goethe-Institut Irland.
