At the next meeting of our International Online Book Club, we welcome Mareike Fallwickl, who will present her book Die Wut die bleibt (The Anger That Remains). The conversation will be moderated by Hanna Hannappel.

Mareike Fallwickl's new novel about the burden that is loaded on women and the rebellion against it: radical, rousing, empowering. Helene, mother of three children, gets up at dinner, goes to the balcony and, without saying a word, throws herself to her death. The family is in shock. Suddenly they are missing everything that has held them together so far: love, care, security.
Helene's best friend Sarah, who simulataneously envied and pitied Helene because of her family, is drawn into the maelstrom of grief and chaos.Lola, Helene's eldest daughter, searches for a way to manage her emotions and focuses on the emotion that is strongest: anger.

Three women: One eludes what life demands of a mother. The other two, the daughter and the best friend, must find ways to close this gap. Their destinies intertwine in this moving and combative novel about what it means to be a woman in our society.

All are welcome to attend the live online event, it is not a requirement to have already read the book. Participation is free and the discussion will be held in German.

MAREIKE FALLWICKL

Mareike Fallwickl, born in Hallein near Salzburg in 1983, lives with her family in the Salzburg region. In 2018 her literary debut Dunkelgrün fast schwarz was published, which was nominated for the Austrian Book Prize and for the favorite book of the independent. The novel The light is much brighter here followed in 2019. In 2022 her bestseller The Anger That Remains, which is nominated for the BooksWomen's Literature Prize, was published. The stage version of The Rage That Remains will premiere in the summer of 2023 at the Salzburg Festival. Mareike Fallwickl is committed to communicating literature on various stages and social media channels, with a focus on female narrative voices.
