Dr Georgina Jackson | Director, The Douglas Hyde Gallery of Contemporary Art

Precious! This is the word that immediately comes to mind when I think of the Goethe Institut Irland. The amazing staff who have always been willing to take a chance on an artist’s or curator’s idea and ready to lend a hand. The belief that culture plays such a special role in developing relationships and that it can open our eyes to new ways of thinking and seeing the world. The numerous partnerships and support from presenting Palestinian Berlin based artist Jumana Manna’s first solo exhibition in Ireland at The Douglas Hyde to the ongoing Freiraum project. And 37 Merrion Square will also always hold a special place in my life as the place my parents first met in the late 1960s learning German. Congratulations on a remarkable 60 years and here’s to plenty more!
