Beuys. The man with the hat, the felt and the fat corner. 30 years after his death, he appears to us as a visionary who was ahead of his time.

The documentary "Beuys" is not a classic portrait, but a furious, clever collage of countless, often previously untapped visual and audio documents that paint the picture of a unique man and artist who broke boundaries in his restless work. Director Andres Veiel and his editors Stephan Krumbiegel and Olaf Voigtländer succeed in creating an intimate look at the man, his art and his spaces of ideas, stirring, provocative and astonishingly present. The result gives viewers access to the complex work and thinking of Beuys.

Premiered at the Berlinale 2017 in competition, "Beuys" received the German Film Award in two categories (Best Documentary, Best Editing).

The film is available to view in Ireland on the Goethe-Institut's digital film screening platform Goethe on Demand for 24 hours from Sunday, 5 December 2021, 3pm GMT.
