As part of the Audi Dublin International Film Festival

Following the screening of the German documentary “Pre-Crime" a panel discussion about Protective Policing will take place on 27 Feb 2018.

The documentary by Matthias Heeder and Monika Hielscher deals with technological developments which increasingly play a crucial role in the fight against crime. Big Data makes it possible to detect and prevent potential crimes before they even happen. It provides a glimpse both into the lives of people whose job it is to develop this technology, as well as those who have fallen victim to this form of data monitoring.
The film raises the fundamental question of whether the protection of the population can justify the increasing surveillance of individual citizens.

Matthias Heeder (film director), Neil Leyden (head of rte.ie), Roisin Kiberd (freelance journalist) and Detective Sergeant John Finan of An Garda Síochána will discuss the opportunities and risks of this new Big Data technology and examine this topic from security, technological and ethic perspectives.

Tickets are sold out.
