And so you see... our honourable blue sky and ever enduring sun… can only be consumed slice by slice… Khoza’s exuberant and outrageous performance produces theatrical fireworks as he guides the audience through the seven mortal sins to the strains of Mozart’s Requiem. A Khoza, a sangoma (traditional healer) living in modern South Africa, Khoza explores questions which Orlin poses to a post-apartheid society: Why can’t you be gay and traditional? Why can’t you be a university graduate and practice traditional African religion and medicine? Why are these conflicts seen as a betrayal rather than an opportunity to discover something new? Humorous and provocative, this cheeky work offers us a glimmer of hope while challenging our preconceptions.
