Lea Moro: (b)reaching stillness

As part of the Dublin Dance Festival

Irish Premiere

Choreographer Lea Moro courageously takes Baroque still life painting as a starting point for this dance piece. With playful humour, she masterfully weaves together her rich lexicon of contrasts to create a work that is simultaneously full of friction, dynamism and absolute calm. Three bodies, naked from the waist up, lie motionless on a blue floor. They begin to stir, probing the idea of motionlessness: a construct of the mind, not the body. With tiny, subtle and ornate movements, they use everything they have to render visible the lifeblood that runs through their beating bodies. As Gustav Mahler’s lush and dramatic Resurrection Symphony begins, the dancers rise, then fall back, then strive upwards again. Glamourous climaxes emerge from the monochrome surface in this dynamic cycle of collapse and resurrection.
