With virtuosic interpretations that are at times lyrical and at times downright breathtaking, Hamburg-based saxophonist Anna-Lena Schnabel is the most successful jazz newcomer of the year. With her quartet she aims to fuse unusual as well as familiar sounds into their own distinct music. The prepared piano joins together with different instrumental timbres and influences leading to compositions with lots of room for the music to unfold. Along with emotional, vigorous improvisation the quartet turns its work into a unique listening experience.

Her first album,'Bottles, Books & Bamboo', nimbly switches between traditional and modern jazz and recently earned her an Echo Jazz Prize.
