Nine members of EUNIC Ireland (European Union National Institutes for Culture) are again presenting a selection of European short films in Dublin, Galway and Cork. The audience will be asked to vote for their favourite film after the evening. The Irish Film Institute and the Cork Film Festival will each present one short film out of competition.
This year, seven of the eleven films shown at the festival have been directed by women.

An actor’s tutorial about crying fake tears on camera. Ten women actors not only explain how to make oneself cry in ten easy steps, they also do their best to demonstrate their skill. Among them, grand thespians like Corinna Harfouch and well known comedians such as Petra Nadolny.
Dennis Todorovic is a German-Montenegrin-Czech writer, director and camera acting coach based in Cologne. He writes historical and fantasy stories and is keen to shoot music videos with German band Erdmöbel.
Presented by the Goethe-Institut Irland in cooperation with the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen.

Heleni asks for a fig on her death bed. Her husband Kostas goes to the nearest fig tree to pick one, but he breaks his leg. Time is short and Kostas is old. With one fig in his hand, he struggles through the harsh nature to get home in time to fulfil his wife’s last wish.
Nicolas Kolovos is a Swedish/Greek film director, playwright and screenwriter. Fig
made him obtain the Golden Dionysos Award at the 38th Greek Short Film Festival in Drama and an Honorary distinction for Best Cinematography.

The casual encounter between Jorge and Fran in a bar reveals that neighbours are not only who share the same hallway. And that a wall may not be as effective to keep us apart, or not as much as we thought.
Chiqui Carabante (Málage, 1967) is a Spanish director and screenwriter who combines his film career with stage direction. With his first two short films – Los días felices
and Bailongas
– he obtained more that forty awards.

The story unfolds within the walls of a particular Complaints Office, a place outside of time, where people give out about their absurd problems. Two employees are seated at a desk with documents and files piling up, trying to find solutions.
Young actors and directors Elisa Billi and Cristiana Mecozzi have been involved in the production of a number of short movies until today, some have been recipients of awards.

In this grotesque love story, the protagonists are confronted with social ostracism as they try hard to gain the acceptance of the outside world. The rough form of cut-out animation inspired by the works of Roald Dahl, Lotte Reiniger and Edward Gorey, makes us ask ourselves, who in fact are the Creatures?
Tessa Moult-Milewska is a filmmaker and a scholar at the Warsaw Film School. She has directed the award-winning animations The Designer
(2012) and Spider and Flies
(2013). She currently runs the Indemind Film Studio.

Thermostat 6 is a coproduction directed by four students from GOBELINS, l’école de l’image. They worked on every step of the process from the storyboard to the animation itself. They all graduated from GOBELINS in 2018.

was nominated for a BAFTA. She is a Sundance Ignite Fellow and a BFI Future Film and New Talent award winner

Emily is an elderly woman who lives between two states, the past and the present. She journeys into an inner world, reliving moments from her life and searching for a connection within her fragmented memories.
Louise Bagnali is an Irish filmmaker and a creative director at Cartoon Saloon. Louise has directed several short animated films including Cúl An Tí, Loose Ends
and Donkey.
Louise is currently the assistant director on Nora Twomey’s Netflix film My Father’s Dragon.

An exploration of memory and the transience of human experience through an evocative montage of images drawn primarily from personal film collections preserved in the IFI Irish Film Archive.
Tadhg O’Sullivan is a filmmaker, editor, sound designer and sound recordist, whose work has screened at prestigious festivals worldwide. Pat Collins is a director of documentary and drama. His eclectic filmography offers portraits of artists, reflective film essays and genre-defying feature dramas.

Mr Ripple chronicles the man behind Ireland’s oldest-serving ice cream van, and looks at this dying tradition.
An award-winning producer and director, after studying film at Warwick University, Jessie Ayles completed a Masters in Screen Documentary at Goldsmiths University, where she won a One World Media Bursary Council and Community Channel.
