Sandro Veronesi

The European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) in Ireland are delighted to launch the European Book Club, a series of monthly discussions on a bestselling novel in English translation.

The European Book Club will be held on the first Thursday of the month at 6pm with a live discussion with the author of the selected novel.

The first session will begin with the presentation of the book Caos calmo by Sandro Veronesi presented by the Instituto Italiano di Cultura.

Sandro Veronesi is an Italian novelist, essayist, and journalist. After earning a degree in architecture at the University of Florence, he opted for a writing career. Since then, he has written several novels, essays, one theatrical piece, numerous introductions to novels and collections of essays, interviews, screenplay and television programmes.

In 2006, his book Caos calmo won the Strega Prize, Italy's top literary award. The book also became an internationally acclaimed film. Sandro Veronesi’s latest novel Colibrì - The Hummingbird - will be published in English next May and was awarded last year’s edition of the same prestigious prize.

Michael F. Moore is an interpreter/translator from Italy. His most recent translations include The Drowned and The Saved by Primo Levi. He is currently working on a new translation of the nineteenth-century classic The Betrothed by Alessandro Manzoni.

Both author and translator will take part in the conversation in English.
