Film Screening of the Short Shorts from Europe Programme 2020

To celebrate Europe Day on Sunday May 9th, EUNIC Ireland (European Union National Institutes for Culture) is delighted to present a free online screening of its 2020 Short Shorts from Europe programme. Action, animation, drama – expect this and more from Short Shorts – a selection of European short films from the home countries of nine members of EUNIC Ireland. Let Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Spain and the UK entertain you with a variety of genres from contemporary, cutting-edge filmmakers. Shorts from Cork International Film Festival, the IFI and Limerick School of Art and Design are also part of the selection.

PROGRAMM

NORMA
By Agata Mianowska – Animation – Poland – 2018– 7’ – No dialogue
Norma image Two young girls try to live up to contemporary notions of beauty. They are both different and, in fact, wonderful in their own special way, and yet neither one of them feels good about herself. Norma and her neighbour use a variety of methods in an attempt to find self-acceptance.

TRIBULATIONS IRLANDAISES

tribulations irlandaises image A whirlwind tour of Ireland in the 1960s, this newsreel documents multiple facets of Irish life. From the blessing of the Aer Lingus planes to Irish dancing in country halls, to Gaelic games and the Traveller community, the film shows what French reporters found distinctive about Irish life at the time. This film is preserved in the IFI Irish Film Archive.
