We are delighted to invite you to the next in the Science Circle Lecture Series presented by the German Consulate in collaboration with prestigious scientific and academic institutions.

Prof. Dr. Alexander Kraemer from the University of Bielefeld and Mr. Damian Wagner, from the Fraunhofer IAO Stuttgart will engage with the issue of Smart Cities and Public Health from a German/global perspective, and lead a discussion on the local context.

Artikelbild Alexander Kraemer Science Circle Alexander Kraemer is an epidemiologist and public health expert. After his tenure at the National Institutes of Health (N.I.H.) and as a faculty of the University of Minnesota, School of Public Health (SPH), USA, he became a co-founder of the first SPH in Germany at the University of Bielefeld, and since 1994 chairs its Department of Public Health Medicine. He is author of more than 200 articles most of them published in peer-reviewed international journals and editor of several books including "Modern infectious disease epidemiology", "Health in megacities and urban areas" and of an upcoming book on climate change and health. He has served for numerous international journals as reviewer of manuscripts, for national and international councils and agencies as reviewer of grant proposals (e.g. German Research Council; European Union; National Institutes of Health, USA) and as international adviser.

ArtikelbildDamian Wagner Science Circle Damian Wagner is coordinator of the Smart Cities Initiative and the European Smart City Project Triangulum at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO in Stuttgart, Germany. He gained hands-on experience in the field of sustainable and innovative energy solutions and financing while working as Senior Project Manager in the Innovation Management team of badenova, a leading German utility, as well as during his time with the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) in Brussels and in his work as freelance consultant. The focus of his studies at ESB Business School in Reutlingen, in Barcelona and at the University of Exeter was on Carbon Finance and Renewable Energy Finance Mechanisms. He put this knowledge into practice in the South of Germany, where his family’s project management firm operates several innovative small hydropower plants.
