Das Sir JJ College of Architecture lädt in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Goethe Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Mumbai, und der Architecture Foundation, Indien, zu einem Vortrag von David Fixler mit dem Titel: "Modern Matters - The Global Renewal of Modern Heritage" am Freitag, den 13. Januar 2023, 17:30 Uhr IST, in der Claude Batley Gallery, Sir JJ College of Architecture, Fort, Mumbai, ein. 

Im Mittelpunkt des Vortrags steht die Moderne im 20. Jahrhundert, ein globales Phänomen, das sich in den verschiedenen Kulturen auf unterschiedliche Weise manifestierte und die Art und Weise, wie wir miteinander und mit unserer Umwelt umgehen, in vielerlei Hinsicht veränderte. Im Anschluss daran findet eine Podiumsdiskussion mit David Fixler, Rahul Mehrotra und Kirtida Unwala statt, die von Mustansir Dalvi moderiert wird.

David Fixler ist der Leiter von DF Architecture Planning Preservation und Dozent für Architektur, Stadtplanung und Design an der Harvard Graduate School of Design. Er ist ein international anerkannter Experte auf dem Gebiet der Denkmalpflege mit Schwerpunkt auf Gebäuden aus der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Zu seinen Projekten gehören Gebäude von Meistern der Moderne wie Alvar Aalto, Louis Kahn und Eero Saarinen. David ist Design Excellence Peer Review Architect für die United States General Services Administration, hat seine Entwürfe und Texte international veröffentlicht und hält weltweit zahlreiche Vorträge.

David Fixler © David Fixler David Fixler, FAIA, FAPT, Principal of DF Architecture planning Preservation and Lecturer in Architecture, Urban Planning and Design at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He is an internationallz recognized leadeer in the field of historic preservation with a focus on buildings of the mid 20th century. His projects include buildings designed bz Modern Movement masters including Alvar Aalto, Louis Kahn, and Eero Saarinen. David is a Design Excellence Peer Review Architect for the United States General Services Adminstration, has had his design and written work published internationally and has lectured extensively around the world.


Rahul Mehrotra © Rahul Mehrotra Rahul Mehrotra is the Founder Principal at RMA Architects based in Mumbai and Boston; and Professor of Urban Design and Planning at Harvard Universitz's Graduate School of Design. Mehrotra has been activelz involved in civic and urban affairs in Mumbai, having served on commissions for historic preservation and environmental issues, with various NGOs and Civic groups, He was the Executive Director (1994ß2004) of the Urban Design Research Institute (UDRI), where he now a Trustee. Mehrotra is a member of the Steering Committee of the Laxmi Mittal South Asia Instsitute at Harvard. He is also a founding member of the Board of the Indian Institute of Human Settlements, Bengaluro. Mehrotra has taught at the Universitz ofMichigan (2003-2007) and at the School of Architecture and urban Planning at MIT (2007-2010).


Kirtida Unwalla © Kirtida Unwalla Kritida unwalla graduated from the Bandra School of Art in 1979 and is a recipient of the Charles Wallace India Trust Scholarship for specilized training in architectural conservation from De Montford University, Leicester UK in 1996. She has acquired specialiyed training in "Structural & Materials Conservation" at the School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi March-April 1996. In private practice since 1983, & has co-ordinated and undertaken consultancy projects concerning: Restauration of historic buildings including structural and architectural restoration, adaptive re-use of historical buildings, Urban area analysis and documentation studies of historic precincts & districts, Conservation management guidelines for hereitage precincts and settlements. Few of her works include Restoration of Ismail Building at Flora Fountain, Afghan Church at Colaba and Juma Masjid at Crawford Market.
 

Mustansir Dalvi © Mustansir Dalvi

Mustansir Dalvi is Professor of Architecture at Sir J.J. College of Architecture. He has lectured, read and published several papers on architectural education, architecutral history and heritage, urgan transformation and architectural semiotics. His doctoral research, for which he received a PhD from ther IIT-Bombay (IDC), examined Bombay's Art Deco architecture from a semiotic perspective. He is the author of The Romance of Red StoneÖ an Appreciation of Ornament on Islamic Architecture in India (Super Book House), and The Past As Present: pedagogical practices in architecture at the Bombay School of Art (Sir J.J. College of Architecture/UDRI). He also edits 20th Century Compulsions, a collection of writigns about early Indian modernist architecture. Across his many avatars, he indulges in being an archivist, a curator and columnist, a commissioned writer, editor and a published poet.
