Online Workshop on german Pop music for students of state run schools

Kolkata

It is no secret that music helps improve language comprehension and memory.  The Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata aims to encourage young learners to experience music and language learning together. With the aim of creatively refining their German language skills, the project – D-Pop – has been conceptualised. D-Pop involves a series of workshops for learners of German from government schools in Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi, Guwahati, Tinsukia and the Shillong region.

The workshops are conducted by the expert – Ms. Flavia Rothe from Germany and Ms. Spreeha Choudhury, Ms. Palak Kothari and Ms. Adrijaa M Majumder from India.

During these workshops, participants are introduced to German pop music – the different genres, artists, history and cultural aspects. The workshops are designed to train all four language learning skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking. Participants also learn about the art of music and performance. D-Pop ends with an online competition where participants submit entries and perform a German song of their choice together with their peers.
