Youth Conference on Environment and Sustainability

What does sustainability mean? Considered from a global perspective, integrated into our local communities and incorporated into our lives individually? How do green topics connect to social justice, but also contribute to our personal happiness? And most importantly, how can we get away from solely theorising about these questions and instead use our full sense perception to experience all them?

Keeping this in mind, Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata is hosting the second edition of Future (T)here - a youth conference on the environment and sustainability from 19th to 21st January, 2018. 
 
Over a hundred students from India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka will come face to face with experts from India and Germany who work on the environment and also representatives from several international organisations. They will work together on projects which could be useful models for a sustainable future. Students will be working on these projects through 19th January, 2018 and 20th January, 2018 before finally presenting them to the public on 21st January, 2018. 
 
The final presentations are scheduled for 21st January, 2018 at 1600 hours. Apart from this, over the three days, several organisations such as UNICEF, Welthungerhilfe, Earth Day Network, etc. will be making keynote addresses on several issues related to a sustainability in South Asia. 
 
In the run up to this, a preparatory camp was held in Chennai in September, 2017 with a group of 40 students and 6 teachers from participating schools in Mumbai and Kolkata which was aimed at making them aware about the Sustainable Development Goals.  

This International Youth Conference has been organised by Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata in association with UNESCO, UNICEF, the Welthungerhilfe and Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus.

The final presentations on 21.01.2018, 4 pm onwards are open to all
