An initiative for children and young people with ThinkArts

Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata

Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata is delighted to be back with the sixth edition of Arts For Juniors. In a series of different and exciting activities, children and teenagers (9-12 as well as 13+ years old) can get in touch with, discover and explore the world of art, music and books. These sessions are not designed to ‘teach an art form’. Rather, they introduce children and young people to various artists and authors, let them share their ideas, spark their imagination, and encourage participants to explore their own creativity.

Sign-up for the session by sending an e-mail to info@thinkarts.co.in

We also welcome parents who would like to participate in the session.

Number of participants is limited.

This session explores Beethoven's life and work, while encouraging participants to respond creatively to the music.

Franz Marc was a German painter and printmaker, one of the key figures of German Expressionism. He was a founding member of Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), one of the most significant art journals of that time period. Georg Frederick Handel (Music)
Wassily Kandinsky (Painting)

Georg Frederick Handel
was a German-British Baroque composer well known for his operas, oratorios, anthems, concerti grossi, and organ concertos. Even though Handel was very interested in music, his father (who was a barber and surgeon) was not. There's a story that Handel smuggled a clavichord -- a VERY quiet instrument -- into the house so that he could practice in secret. Handel's father insisted that his son become a lawyer, until the day that Handel sat down at the keyboard and dazzled a duke. The duke convinced Handel's father to let his son study music.

Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter, printmaker and art theorist. He was one of the most important 20th-century artists and a major figure in modern art. He was interested in geometry in art and philosophy. The creative aspect of the form is expressed by a descending series of circles, triangles and squares. Kandinsky described his paintings as "visual music," with colors being like sounds. He often painted to music, using color and line to express how the music made him feel.

ONLINE SESSION
9 June from 4 pm

Johann Sebastian Bach (Music)

One of the most recognisable figures in Western Classical music, often cited as the 'father of harmony', Johann Sebastian Bach's music changed the way music was composed forever. However, his works were largely restricted to private study until Felix Mendelsohn revived his work and brought it back to concert halls in 1841, conducting the Passion of St. Matthew.

This is an open session, and all are welcome. For registration, please write to info@thinkarts.co.in

Momo by Michael Ende (Literature)
Clara Schumann (Music)

Through Momo's adventures with her friends, fighting against the grey men who have taken over the city, Michael Ende weaves a beautiful story about time and friendship in this timeless classic.

Clara Schumann was one of the most distinguished performers of the Romantic era, with a career that spanned 61 years. A performer, composer, and teacher, she was not remembered as a composer until years after her death. However, she was noted for her skill and influence as a pianist. She made it popular to perform serious works in concerts, rather than displays of virtuosity.

Emil, one of Germany's most beloved children's characters, has to put his thinking cap to work in this classic detective story as he travels to a new city all alone and is met with strangers and dangers at every step along the way! The session also speaks about Erich Kastner's life and thoughts on writing.
