German travel writer and public intellectual Ilija Trojanow will be conducting a three-day travel writing workshop and will engage in a public conversation with Ranjit Hoskote.

In his travel writing workshop, Trojanow will unpack the seemingly simple but actually demanding situation in which the participants, as travel writers find themselves, and in which they must craft their writing: the self, with its prior assumptions; language, as a means of approaching the world; and the world itself, in its complexity.

About Ilija Trojanow:
Trojanow is a German writer and public intellectual. As a child and as an adult, Trojanow has lived and travelled across the world, including in Nairobi, Paris, Munich, Cape Town, and six years in Mumbai, before settling in Vienna, where he currently resides. He has written several travelogues about Africa, India and Arabia and published African literature. His travelogue „Along the Ganges“ was chosen by Condé Nast as one of the best travel books of all times. He has written five novels and has been translated into 30 languages. A member of the German chapter of PEN International, Trojanow has received numerous awards for his work including the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize, the Leipzig Book Fair Prize for fiction and the Heinrich-Böll-Prize. He has also co-authored „Confluences" with Indian poet and cultural theorist Ranjit Hoskote.
