The Science Film Festival is a celebration of science communication in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, in cooperation with local partners it promotes science literacy and facilitates awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through international films with accompanying educational activities. The Science Film Festival has grown considerably since its first edition in 2005, becoming the largest event of its kind worldwide. In 2021, the festival will take place across Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America from October 01 to December 20.

This year the festival is scheduled online from October 01 to December 20, the theme this year is “Better Health Through Better Understanding”. In the context and aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, health and mental well-being are more important than ever. That is why bringing these issues out into the open especially at this time is so important and the reason Science Film Festival turns its focus on health and mental health in 2021. 


The Science Film Festival presents a wide assortment of films in the following five categories to serve all age groups, but with a focus on content for young audiences:

  • Family Edutainment
  • Ecology & Environment
  • Natural Science, Life Science & Technology
  • Non-Verbal & Science Shorts
  • Culture & History 


The films on view in South Asia are categorised for the following age groups:

  • 2 Films for Early Learners (5-8 yrs)
  • 8  Films for Primary Section (9-11 yrs)
  • 4  Films for Secondary Section (12-16 yrs)
  • 14 Films for University and General Public (17+ yrs)

 
The films available in South Asia can be accessed securely online post free registration. Once you have registered via the form on the page you will receive a link to the films on Vimeo Showcase and the password that will enable you to stream the films free of charge for the duration of the Science Film Festival 2021.

Free educational activities are linked to each film for you to use and build on the learnings from the films in your classrooms and homes. Live Screenings every Weekend!

Science Film Festival - Quiz
This year the Science Film Festival will be accompanied by a ‘Science Film Festival Quiz’ for South Asia - Bangladesh, India, Iran, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The Science Quiz invites thousands of students to partake and compete in it. Join in and have fun!
