Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan New Delhi

When was the last time you wrote on an Inland Letter Card?

The project 5 gms | 70 gsm | 1000 X 1000 incidents, realised within the framework of Five Million Incidents, 2019-2020 and presented to mark 60 years of the presence of Goethe-Insitut / Max Mueller Bhavan in New Delhi & Kolkata invites YOU to be part of an analogue network of information transmission.

It invites YOU to share your memories, thoughts, feelings and emotions on
5 gms | 70 gsm, an Inland Letter Card (mandated to be 5 gms in weight and 70 gsm in grammage).

Next steps
Pick up an Inland Letter Card from the Goethe-Insitut / Max Mueller Bhavan – they are available at the Reception and at the Library from 17.08.2019 onwards.
This is an Open Letter* and will be placed in letter boxes for public to view at various locations on the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan premises, as well as on social media platforms.
Please write with a black ink pen and sign off with your name, date and geographic location.

You can write a letter or a verse or prose.
You can draw, doodle, illustrate, scribble, use thumb prints, block prints and let your imagination take over.
You can write to a loved one, to a friend or a foe. To a political figure or a celebrity. Or even to your pet.
You can address a living person or someone passed on, or even a fictitious character.
You can write in any Indian or international language.
You can write on an issue you feel strongly about or choose to write a limerick!

The Inland Letter Card has to be returned to Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan or Sangeeta Rana by courier or by hand - without being folded. The addresses are below.
Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan in turn, will scan the letter and mail the letter on your behalf.

NOTE: * You also have the option of writing a personal letter that you simply post and not make it an Open Letter – the choice is yours.

What's the objective?
The objective is to trigger an interest in handwritten letters once again.
Workshops will be conducted in the Language classes at Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan as well as in local schools.
YOU will be the catalyst that will help us make this happen.

What's next?
Please let us know if you'd be happy to participate and we'll mail you an Inland Letter Card.
You can have more than one as well (we're hoping you're bursting with ideas)

The next time the doorbell rings...It just maybe the postman!
