OPEN CALL FOR A PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
in cooperation with ueberall & CPB Foundation
About the Workshop
ueberall (a new non-profit photography platform founded by Yana Wernicke and Jonas Feige) and the CPB Foundation are looking for photographers to take part in a workshop from February 5 to March 2, 2018 to be hosted at Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Chennai.
During the four week workshop the selected photographers will be asked to work on a self-chosen project relating to the city of Chennai or the general idea of „hometown“. Be it an intimate portrait of a loved one who represents home or a documentary series on Chennai’s rapid urbanization – every kind of interpretation is welcome, as long as it is unique and different from the more typical, touristy imagery of Chennai and India.
The outcome of the workshop will be presented in form of a collectively designed pop-up exhibition and on the ueberall website / social media platforms.

Costs: The workshop will be free of charge for all participants. Participants will have to bear their own travel and daily expenses. Exhibition costs will kindly be taken over by the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Chennai.
Requirements
In order to apply you must be a resident of Chennai or its surrounding areas, as the workshop is based on the idea of „hometown“. Please make sure that you will be able to attend the group meetings and editing sessions. There will be an intense opening week with a lot of theoretical input, as well as a busy last week in which the projects and exhibition will be finalized. The rest of the workshop will be more loose so that the photographers can organize their time according to their owns needs.
Please provide us with a rough outline of your project idea for the workshop. Everything is possible as long as it promises to be a unique look onto the city. Keep it short and poignant, nothing is set in stone and of course things can change throughout the workshop.
Applicants must bring their own cameras and equipment. This does not have to be high-end / professional gear but please make sure that it can produce images that are large enough for an exhibition print.
The primary language of the workshop will be English with a Tamil translator present at group meetings.
You need to:
- be a resident of Chennai or its surrounding areas
- be able to attend the group meetings (especially during first and last week of the workshop)
- have a rough project idea for the workshop
- bring your own camera
- speak / understand English at intermediate level
How to apply
Send ONE PDF (no larger than 10 MB) via e-mail containing:
- your project proposal for the workshop (between 200 and 1.000 words, preferred in English, Tamil possible)
- please also make a short note of what kind of camera / equipment you will use during the workshop
- your CV (max. 1 page) including contact information (Name, Email, Phone, Website)
- max. 15 images of previous projects
