Border Movement Lounge is a platform to showcase established and upcoming artists and producers of electronic music from across South Asia and Germany. The lounge is an informal event format that hopes to foster a more open and interactive culture of electronic music performance, as well as a more well-rounded appreciation from the local music community.

Each edition of Border Movement Lounge focuses on different areas of the region, partnering acts with local talent.

About the artists:

GOLDEN DISKÓ SHIP

Golden Diskó Ship is Theresa Stroetges, a musician, composer and sound artist based in Berlin. She is currently playing in three bands. Her solo project Golden Diskó Ship combines songs with sound collages, electronics, acoustic instruments and video projections. The experimental psychedelic trio Soft Grid drifts between catchy hooks and heavy synth breakdowns, sometimes fragile, sometimes forceful. Epiphany Now is an ongoing electroacoustic audiovisual improvisation project. Theresa also enjoys investigating possibilities of breaking up conventional performance praxes and borders of genres in collaboration with performance artists, dancers, poets, filmmakers and in sound installations.

PLASTIC PARVATI

Calcutta based musician Suyasha Sengupta’s solo venture Plastic Parvati steps into the world of electronic pop music, which Suyasha uses as a platform to initiate conversation on healthy sexuality, gender binaries and de-stigmatising mental health concerns. After releasing her debut record ‘Songs about Lovers’ in collaboration with the celebrated producer Miti Adhikari in 2018, she has been focusing on her role as a music producer and activist, enabling dialogue through her lived experiences as a performer and a creator. Suyasha participated in the Goethe Talent Programme 2018, a 10-day programme in collaboration with Pop-Kultur, Berlin, to support and connect young musicians.

KINI RAO

Kini is a DJ/producer/mixed media artist based in Mumbai, India. She is an avid collector of music, her sets accentuate the sounds she loves and in a broader sense fit into the zones of House & Techno. Starting her career at venues like Zenzi Mills (the iconic centre of the underground scene in Mumbai), to playing an after-hours set at bar 25 Berlin, Kini pushed the boundaries in music from an early stage. Digging for records that are long lasting, she shies away from the concept of disposable music and trends, to find the kind of quality sound that can be played a decade down the line. From a live broadcast at Boiler Room to collaborating on music culture assignments with British Council and Goethe-Institut, Kini's global tastes and effortless manoeuvres across the electronic music spectrum make her hard to define but essential to hear.
