We are happy to host one in a series of workshops presented by Visthar, in association with Studio for Movement Arts & Therapies. Improv Theatre Workshops focus on use of theatre to influence public policy on mental health issues in the city.

About the Workshop:
The ability to tolerate ambiguity is essential to mental health. In this workshop, participants will explore this premise by learning the fundamentals of improvisation and discovering how these skills can enrich their lives and make them more flexible, resilient, effective, and empathetic, both personally and as future mental health workers. Through dynamic exercises and personal feedback, students will understand how an improvisational mindset can deepen communication skills, reframe negative self-talk, reawaken a sense of play, and strengthen awareness of mind-body connection. Improv is short for improvisational; this kind of theatre is not pre-planned and is created in real-time. The workshop is open to beginners and professionals alike.

About the Trainer:
The workshop will be taught by Jim Robinson, Ph.D (Psychology). Jim has a dual career in theatre and psychology. He is an alumnus of the Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis, Minnesota and is currently on stage with The Theater of Public Policy.  He teaches improvisation at the Guthrie Theater, the Brave New Student Union (both in Minneapolis), and at the University of Minnesota.
