Session 1: A conversation between Soumya Sankar Bose and his collaborator Baishali Chakraborty about the image they have constructed together for "Full moon on a dark night". They'll share few personal belongings like sketches, old photographs and other materials which has had helped them to create what we are experiencing today within a frame. Viewers will also get a glimpse of the whole process . And Baishali will talk about his experiences, walking on this path with the photographer.

Based on a story that melds elements of a real incident that took place 20 years ago and an incident in a recurring dream, a photographic image is created. This image is accompanied by a recording of a conversation between two friends just before the photo was taken. But which incident are they talking about? Which incident is captured in the image – the incident from 20 years ago, or the incident which occurred in the dream? Or is it about the time when the photograph was taken? In One Image, thousand stories!! the past is traversed through images to connect it to the present. Audio and texts construct several bridges, which are bound to a single image, baffling the viewer/ listener, leaving them with questions – Who? How? When? And what is the truth behind an image? Where does the reality of an incident lie? Does it really exist? If so, then how far is it from the truth?

Actant

Soumya Sankar Bose completed a one-year Diploma in Photography from Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, Dhaka. His project, Full Moon on a Dark Night was awarded the Photography and Social Justice Fellowship by Magnum Foundation and he is a recipient of the Magnum Foundation Migration and Religion Grant (2018). Bose received the India Foundation for the Arts grant for the project Let’s Sing an Old Song (2015 and 2017). In 2019, he participated in the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass. His work has appeared in many publications including, The New York Times, Granta, The Indian Express, The Telegraph, BBC Online, Platform, Scroll.in, The Caravan and Conde Nast. Bose lives and works in Kolkata.
