Kolkata

An international forum for exchange on food, traditions and sustainability

Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata is organising an online food festival where young learners of India, Sri Lanka and Germany will come together to explore the topic of food and nutrition.

Food and nutrition is a topic that is close to our heart and has a huge impact on everyone’s lives. It has the power to influence political decisions affecting millions to start or end a war. It is something that we all need to survive, and it binds us emotionally, politically and socially.

Through this project, we aim to embark on a journey that will probe into the intercultural aspects of food, explore how food brings us together socially and how it can be grown and distributed sustainably.

Together with experts from Germany, India and Sri Lanka, students will learn in detail about food and nutrition, conduct their own research and experiment on the topic and create new recipes. Afterwards they will exchange these recipes, which they have created, with each other. Each of the workshops will explore different aspects of the food journey and participants will work together to produce interesting results such as a recipe app, an interactive wall that addresses questions of diet and nutrition and so on.

The event will also see input sessions by experts from Germany and India on a variety of aspects relating to food. As part of the closing ceremony, participants will get to enjoy an interactive, virtual theatre performance by the theatre troupe “performing:group” from Germany.
