The Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata, in collaboration with Glocal Films, is conducting a two-day teacher training on "Using Film as a Learning Method in DaF Classes" as part of the monthly German Teachers' Meeting on 19.06.21 and 20.06.21.

During the two-day workshop, participants will learn how to create and edit films and use them as teaching and learning tools in the language classroom. They will also learn how to create and use participatory videos as part of their teaching methodology.

Some of the things they will learn are:

19.06.21 – Day 1
  • Tips and tricks on how to use smartphones to create films
  • Using software to edit films on a laptop/ computer
  • Application of different film making techniques to create individual teaching sequences

At the end of Day 1, participants will have several ideas for creating short clips that they can later use both in online lessons and in lessons at school.

20.06.21 – Day 2
  • Optimal use of smartphones
  • Discuss film theories
  • Learn participatory video methods
  • Learn the didactic implementation of film-based exercises on specific topics in the context of language teaching

As a final result, at the end of the workshops, teachers will not only know the different technical options for creating films as a medium for language teaching but will also have different film-based lesson plans for use in their future classes.

Glocal Films – a German non-profit film company based in London and founded by the Filmmakers Kerstin Rickermann and Silke Beller – has extensive experience in filmmaking, participatory video, sociology and social work. They use the medium of film as a tool for positive social change and have worked with people from different cultural and religious backgrounds from around the world.
