Intercultural communication skills require that you acquire adequate knowledge of other cultures and the necessary skills for an intercultural encounter, so that you can enter into a mutually fruitful intercultural interaction with people from others countries. With every intercultural interaction between an Indian and a German, there are always cultural shocks and misunderstandings that can be traced back to different attitudes towards life, various cultural assumptions, and different ways of linguistically structuring thoughts and how they are conveyed. In this lecture we will identify some of the cultural differences between India and Germany and explain, using suitable examples, how and why some misunderstandings arise in the interaction between Indians and Germans and how they should be dealt with sensibly.
