A Little Calm before the Storm was first introduced to Bangalore audiences in 2016, in the form of a rehearsed reading as part of our ongoing project German Spotlight. This initiative, in association with Sandbox Collective, seeks to popularise the vast Goethe library of contemporary German plays available in translation.

Inspired by the success of the reading, Vandana Prabhu developed the play into a full-fledged production, which premiered at the Deccan Herald Theatre Festival 2017. If you missed it then, now's your chance to catch it!

In ancient days, the actor playing the character of Satan was usually killed at the end of the show!
Or so we learn when studying theatre history. But, these are modern days and killing actors is (un) fortunately not permitted. Which brings us to the matter at hand. Three actors preparing for a panel discussion about playing Hitler. Since the moderator is late they get talking. Two have played Hitler on stage, while the third has been Goebbels in a film. Slowly, with perfidious wordplay and black humour, a clash of cultures emerges between the old and the new. Theatre thus orbits itself – and laughs.
