Communist Pacha © Flo Maak German artist and current bangaloREsident@Pepper House, Flo Maak lives in Berlin and works with photography, which he usually presents as part of installations. During his residency at Pepper House, he researched so-called invasive species in and around Kochi. He interviewed scientists from the Kerala Forest Research Institute and the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute and spoke with locals about their experiences with introduced plants. Very soon he focused on a plant known in the region as "Communist Pacha". It can now be found in many places around the world and is often seen as a threat to native flora. As it spread, it was given different names, but only in Kerala is it associated with communism.

Flo will present some of his older works that paved the way for his current interest in "indigenous", "alien" and "invasive alien species". Thereafter, he will present the results of his research in Kochi and show first samples of his new work.
