Writing and a Sense of Belonging: In Conversation with Author Monica Cantieni
Works of fiction allow us to experience lives different from our own. At some point in our own lives, we may have also felt different or like an outsider. This event- including both a reading and a conversation - will discuss the social constructions of identity and explore the roles played by politics, society, ethnicity and most important family. How does a family -one that we are born into or one that is chosen for us (as is the case in “The Encyclopaedia of Good Reasons’), provide support against what may be an indifferent or even a hostile world outside?
This event which enables author-reader interaction besides a virtual reading will take place on ZOOM 6:30 - 7:30 pm. (IST).
Registrations open Wednesday, 3 November 2021.

THE ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF GOOD REASONS| GRÜNSCHNABEL-
"My father bought me from the city for 365 francs." Thus begins the story of a child who, given up for adoption, ends up with new parents in the immigrant milieu of the 1970s. In the midst of this colourfully mixed environment, the child tries to gain a foothold and to find her way around with the help of a collection of words in many matchboxes. Which is not so easy; the problems only get bigger as a discovery is made in the wardrobe of an Italian guest worker that triggers an avalanche.
