In light of the unprecedented economic crisis and political change in Sri Lanka in 2022, Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka and Goethe-Institut Chennai / Max Mueller Bhavan in partnership with the CPB Foundation have come together to share lens-based stories from 4 artists based in Sri Lanka.
This exhibition is made as a reflective work on the recent situation and incidents in Sri Lanka.
A curated selection from the photo works of the below artists will be presented as an exclusive exhibition titled “The People´s voice is louder” for 2 weeks from 17th June to 2nd July 2023 at Alliance Française of Madras.

Artists Bios and their works:
Pirainila`Krishnarajah:
Pirainila`Krishnarajah is a Media Studies graduate from the University of Jaffna. Her focus of interests lies with community-based issues. She directed a documentary film based on Transgender in Jaffna called "Naangkalum Irukkiram". Pirainila is a social activist and writer who wants to integrate using photography more in her work to give her subjects a passionate.

Riyal Raffai:
Riyal Raffai is a free-lance videographer, photographer and bass guitarist in a couple of underground bands. He is based in Colombo and has been chronicling the protest at GotaGoGama and Independent Square since the began in April 2022.

Parilojithan Ramanathan:
Parilojithan Ramanathan is a multidiscplinary artist, with profound lens-based work. He successfully completed BFA specialization in painting at Ramanathan Academy of Fine Arts, University of Jaffna (2018). He is co-founder of We Are From Here, a community based art project (since 2017). His work has been showcased in group exhibition and festivals such as: Humanity & Earth, Colomboscope and Kochi Muziris Student Biennale.

Nayanahari Abeynayake:
Nayanahari Abeynayake is a photographer from Galle. The southern coast is her primary photographic location where she and her father used to travel to various locations on a tiny motorbike capturing the beauty and hardships in everyday life. Her interest in photography was sparked while taking photos with her sister's camera for her own amusement. She then joined Hegoda school of Photography. Since then, photography has become the element that sustains her spirit.
