In the edition of March Dance 2024, two artists were granted a residency to develop their choreographic research.

The project was made possible by a grant from the India Foundation for the Arts, as well as by the support of the Alliance Française of Madras in housing the residency at their premises.

Members of the Basement 21 collective have followed and nurtured the practice of both artists – Dileep Chilanka (Kasargod, Kerala) and Ainesh Madan (Bangalore, Karnataka) with inputs from practitioners and academics at the forefront of the contemporary performance scene in Chennai. At the culmination of a one-month residency, the artists share the development of their work as performative sketches while being in conversation with members of Basement 21.
