ALLE REDEN ÜBERS WETTERDir.: Annika Pinske
89 min., Germany, 2019-2022
Clara is 39 and is taking a PhD in philosophy. She lives in a Kreuzberg flat share while her teenage daughter lives with her ex. Clara is having a secret relationship with one of her students. Her thesis supervisor, the strong and independent Margot, provides her with professional encouragement. When Clara visits her home in provincial Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for her mother’s birthday, she finds herself struggling with the pride and expectations but also with the rejection of her family and former companions. She begins to realise just how far she has moved away from her roots in her search for a self-determined life. But perhaps she had to move away. Because one's perception of home can change.
Annika Pinske's quiet drama is a study in familiarity and distance, liberty and compulsion, the countryside and the city. Sensitive, nuanced performances from an outstanding cast with an assured command of the local dialects allow the audience to experience the atmospheres of both Berlin's university milieu and the rural family get-together.

Die Welt wird eine andere sein (Copilot)Dir.: Anne Zohra Berrached
119 min., Germany & France 2018-2021
Asli first sets eyes on Saeed in the mid-1990s at a fairground as he is anxiously stepping off a merry-go-round just before the ride begins. They get to know each other while spinning bottles at a party in their student hall of residence. Asli is fascinated by Saeed’s charisma and self-confidence. The two students marry secretly even though Asli’s mother is against the relationship. In a mosque in Hamburg, they promise to stay together and keep each other’s secrets. Caught between asserting herself, conforming to her traditional parental home and her self-sacrificing love, Asli tries to find her own way in life. Then Saeed disappears. His decision changes Asli’s life – before it shakes the whole world.
Anne Zohra Berrached’s film comprises several layers that are all of equal importance. It is a love story, but it is also an exploration of cultural differences, truth and faith, trust and delusion. After "Two Mothers" and "24 Weeks", the director once again demonstrates her particular ability to reveal the private lives that exist behind the politics, as well as her great sensitivity when working with actors.

Aus meiner Haut ´Dir.: Alex Schaad
104 min., Germany 2021-2022
Leyla and Tristan have been a couple for years, but for some time they have felt that something is missing in their relationship. One day they are invited by Leyla's childhood friend Stella to a remote island, where they quickly realize that strange things are going on. In fact, Stella offers them an unusual experiment: through an exchange ritual, they are to swap bodies with another person in order to see the world through that person's eyes. For Leyla and Tristan, Fabienne and Mo were drawn as "swap partners". While Tristan is not quite comfortable in his temporary body, Leyla is intoxicated by an unknown feeling of happiness. When she refuses to swap back into her own body, the experiment threatens to escalate.

The OrdinariesDir: Sophie Linnenbaum
124 min., Germany, 2021-2022
Paula lives with her mother in a form of society whose population is divided into three classes: there are "main characters", "supporting characters" and "outtakes", designations borrowed from the film world. The social order is based on oppression, and the "outtakes" live as the lowest class in state-administered mass housing on the fringes of society. Paula was a supporting character, but has worked her way up with difficulty. Now she is about to take the exam to become a main character, where she has to present an emotional monologue with rousing music. She has a good idea, but the "heart reader" from which her music comes is causing problems. In search of a solution, she goes to the district of the outtakes - and she realises that she has more in common with these people than she could have dreamed.
