CELEBRATING KAFKA @ Chennai © Goethe-Institut Chennai

Franz Kafka was born into a middle-class German-speaking Czech Jewish family in Prague on 3rd July 1883. He is one of the founders of literary modernism. He is an enigmatic author, profound and complicated and his texts are studied like revelations, line by line using complex methodology.
Suffering from Tuberculosis, he died on 3rd June 1924 aged just 40. His close friend and literary executor Max Brod published many of Kafka's works posthumously. Kafka's writings became famous in German-speaking countries after World War II, influencing German literature and he is one author who has inspired and intrigued many creative people, beyond literature, including illustrators, painters, film directors, composers, theatre producers, actors etc.

Commemorating his death centenary, Goethe-Institutes worldwide have come up with a myriad of events and Kafka celebrations at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan Chennai begins on 2nd July 2024.
