Prakriti Foundation, in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Chennai, is thrilled to announce the launch of The Urban Elite v. Union of India: The Unfulfilled Constitutional Promise of Marriage (In)Equality, the latest work by Rohin Bhatt—a practicing lawyer and prominent voice for queer rights in India. The event will feature a panel discussion on LGBTQIA+ policies and evolving legal frameworks, with the author joined by panelists Adv. Kanmani R, a trans woman and advocate, and Dr. L. Ramakrishnan, public health professional and community advocate.

About the Book: The Urban Elite v. Union of India delves into the personal and professional experiences of a queer lawyer navigating India’s legal landscape, offering insights into the fight for marriage equality and the broader struggle for LGBTQIA+ rights in India.

About the Author: Rohin Bhatt, a queer, non-binary lawyer practicing in the Supreme Court, is known for their advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights. Bhatt holds a Master’s in Bioethics from Harvard Medical School and has written for leading platforms including The Leaflet, The Hindu, and The Guardian.

About the Panelists:
Dr. L. Ramakrishnan (he/they), with SAATHII and Orinam, focuses on public health and community advocacy.
Kanmani R (she/her), a transgender advocate, works on policies for health, education, and housing for gender and sexual minorities.
