A TOLEDO-Project in Kolkata

A group of translators, authors and editors from Berlin (Sherry Simon, Isabel Fargos Cole, Nikola Richter, Peter Holland, Patricia Klobusiczky, Christian Filips, Jürgen Jakob Becker, Aurélie Maurin) explores Kolkata as a multilingual prominent literary metropolis with its translators while paying special attention to its translation culture and seeing it as a space of literary translation and as the stage of translators, that shows the city’s particular nature as a city of translators.

Subroto Saha, a translator from German to Bengali, will be leading this first Translators’ Expedition. There will be Explorations with Heritage Walk Calcutta, Lecture and Conversation on "Translating Kolkata" at Bangla Akademi, Discussion with Authors and Translators at Sahitya Akademi, Meetings with Publishers and Editors, a Symposium on Translation at the Centre for Translation of Indian Literatures of Jadavpur University and reading and talks at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata.
