A concert by Patrick Yim, Jennifer Heemstra and Viraag Desai

An evening along the silk road as you are entertained by the Hessler Street Duo! Violinist Patrick Yim & pianist Jennifer Heemstra will present a varied concert of classical and contemporary works composed by Russian, Uzbek, Chinese, Mexican & Norwegian composers. Animated visuals will be projected by artist Viraag Desai.

Patrick Yim, a Honolulu-born violinist has performed as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral violinist throughout the world, including performances in Carnegie Hall and David Geffen Hall (New York), the Seoul Arts Center, Hong Kong City Hall, Harpa Concert Hall (Reykjavík), Severance Hall (Cleveland), Orchestra Hall (Chicago), Teatro alla Scala (Milan), and the Musikverein (Vienna). He joined The Cleveland Orchestra on tours to New York City, Chicago, Miami, and major cities in Europe, including Paris, Milan, Brussels, Luxembourg, Cologne, Munich, and Vienna. He has performed chamber music with members of the Juilliard, Emerson, Pacifica, Ying, and St. Lawrence Quartets, and with members of The Cleveland Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. As Guest Music Director of the Collegium Musicum Hong Kong, he collaborated with world-renowned pipa virtuoso Wu Man and performed at the Hong Kong City Hall as violinist and conductor. In 2018, he commissioned and premiered new works with Juilliard Quartet violinist Joel Smirnoff.

Jennifer Heemstra, pianist and entrepreneur received the Young Alumni Award from Michigan State University this November and was the commencement speaker for the graduating class of 2017.  She founded the Kolkata Classics trust in India which provides free health services for trafficked women, educates children from the slums and the elite and exposes the citizens of Kolkata to high quality classical music. She has put on 70 concerts and performed for and worked with over 65,000 adults/children in South Asia.  For her work, she was presented with the Secretary of State Award for Outstanding Volunteerism Abroad from John Kerry. In the USA, Heemstra founded the Pitch Pipe Foundation, a Non-Profit which links great artist to great need. Most recently Heemstra moved to Dushanbe, Tajikistan where she has launched a branch of the Pitch Pipe Foundation, participated in the UN Women’s Campaign Against Gender Based Violence and is organizing a workshop series for people with disabilities. 
 
Viraag Desai, designer and artist, earned a Bachelor of Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has shown widely in the USA & India.  Group exhibits include ‘Wanderlust,’ at J&K Gallery, Arcadia, California (2010); ‘Trip Tash,‘ at Aakar Prakar Galley; ‘Screenshots of Utopia’ and ‘Mapping Detours’ at Chitrakoot Art Gallery (2013);  Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai.  He took part in the Cima Awards show in Kolkata, ‘Uday’ at Aakar Prakar Art Advisory, New Delhi (2016), the ‘Affordable Art Fair’ in Hampstead and 'Serendipity Arts festival' in Goa in 2018.  He has completed several large-scale commissions for commercial spaces, both in India and abroad, expanding his practice from painting to sculpture to technology-based installations. Desai veers towards the technical in his new-media art, when designing for films and concerts. At present, he works between his studios in Mumbai and Kolkata.
