Film Festival 25th Edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival

The Kolkata Film Festival which was started in the year 1995, was the culmination of a film society movement that drew its inspiration from the masters of Bengali Cinema like Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen and more. The festival has now developed into an inclusive celebration of cinema, which makes some of the finest cinema accessible to everyone in the city.

The 25th Edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival this year has Germany as the focus country. Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata has played an eminent role in designing and curating the German film programmes, workshop, master classes and an exhibition.

Highlights from Germany:

Eminent director Volker Schlöndorff will be present at the festival as the chief guest to introduce his films and conduct two master classes. His films have been carefully curated in a special category as the ‘Director’s Choice’.

The retrospective is designed to present some of the finest films made by Alexander Kluge. Stefan Holl, producer of the films by Alexander Kluge and Leonard Kluge, son of Alexander Kluge and director of the Kluge Foundation will be present to introduce the films and talk about the works of the legend.
