Invitation to participate in the digital translation academy of the Goethe-Institut South Asia 2023.

Space for reflection, dialogue and creative work for literary translators

For the first time, the Goethe-Institut South Asia is initiating a digital academy for translators from German into the languages of South Asia. The project will start in May 2023 with an online event.

The translation academy is aimed at literary translators* who can further qualify themselves within the framework of this project. The aim is to promote the literary translation scene in the South Asian region, to strengthen the professional connection between literary translators and to support their work.

Source language is German, target languages include Bangla, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Singalese.
For the application, translations of two given literary texts and one poem have to be submitted. You can find the text excerpts here as a pdf file:

  1. Please also send us a short letter of motivation ( 3 lines) and your CV ( 5 lines)!
  2. All files should be submitted in pdf format.
  3. Each file must be marked with the first name of the translator and the type of document: e.g. "Sayali_Resume.pdf" / "Sayali_Marathi.pdf" / Sayali_Motivation letter.pdf
  4. Please be sure to mention the target language in the email subject!
An independent jury will review the translation samples and select three candidates per language to participate in the Academy.

For the selected translators, participation in all sessions, lectures and presentations of the Translation Workshop is mandatory.
