Martin Kämpchen, after his studies in the USA, Vienna and Paris, began to live in India from 1973. He was first a German teacher in Kolkata, then again a student in Chennai and Santiniketan. Since 1980, he lives as a free-lance translator of Tagore and Ramakrishna from Bengali to German, as a writer on Indian literature and religions, as a cultural journalist for German and Indian periodicals and activist for the welfare of tribal villages around Santiniketan. On the threshold of 70, he wants to share his experience in the 70-year-old country.
