(ii) Understanding of the purpose of printmaking tools, methods and materials of various types of intaglio print making technique etc.

Etching - a printmaking technique used extensively by Otto Dix in the ongoing show, is an intaglio process used in cases of through which the design is drawn with a sharp tool. The technique was invented in Germany in the late 1400s.

Aquatint - an intaglio process used to create tonal effects rather than lines. The technique was developed in France in the 1760s, and became popular in Britain in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. It is often used in combination with other intaglio techniques.
