A lecture by Marcel Odenbach

One of the most important German artists today, Marcel Odenbach is also the pioneer of video art. His works attest to his crucial role in promoting and shaping the international development of the video genre. His videos and drawings are complex narratives that are compiled using special collage technique, with recorded film and television footage, archive material, and pictures all produced by the artist himself.

Odenbach deals with post-war Germany, and very early on he was able to open this up to a more general perspective, looking at different cultures and political constellations and drawing them into his work. He paints an analytical and emotional portrait of people in a globalised society.

Narratives of Contemporary Art - a series of lectures initiated by Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai involves senior artists, curators and scholars discuss key concepts, ideas, interpretations and praxis related to Contemporary art practices globally. Begun with the aim to familiarize students and young practitioners with different aspects of contemporary art, this series is also intended to add a new pedagogical dimension to the art and exhibition work of the institute.
